The 45 Battalion INF is distinct from the larger 45 VA INF, a regiment which operated outside southern
WV, SW VA, and eastern KY. The 45 BATTALION VA INF formed in December of 1863 primarily from disbanded (March of 1863) companies of Virginia State Line Regiments and operated within southern WV, SW VA, and eastern KY until June of 1864.
